THE CURSE OF THE GOAT.
In
1945, William "Billy Goat" Sianis tried to bring his pet goat, Murphy,
with him into Wrigley Field for Game 4 of the World Series between the
Cubs and Detroit Tigers. Sianis was the owner of the now famous
Billy Goat Tavern, parodied on
Saturday Night Live in the "Cheezborger Cheezborger" sketch. Ushers at the game said the goat was too smelly
and told Sianis he had to leave. In retaliation, Sianis cast a "curse"
on the Cubs. The Cubs lost game 4. They lost the next 2 of 3
and lose the 1945 World Series 4 - 3 against the Detroit Tigers.
Since then, the Cubs
have NOT EVEN BEEN to a World Series! The "Curse of the Goat" seems to be
alive and well. But there have been some
CLOSE CALLS!
Also, the Sianis family
have "lifted" the curse and wish for the Cubs to win!
